Facts and Statistics about USA Job Hunting.
There are 2 primary markets and ways to find sponsorship jobs:
1
) The ADVERTISED Job Market -this is when employers post jobs on their own sites, and/or on Job Sites
Statistically only 20% of jobs are filled through the 'Advertised' job market, and a massive 80% are filled in the 'Hidden' job market (see below).
Other things to consider about the 'advertised' job market include:
a/ a large majority of people apply to jobs on the 'advertised' market, which naturally increases the competition for those jobs.
b/ USA job sites primary function is for American employers to hire American workers
c/ in slow economies, many employers do not need to advertise through job sites
d/ statistically, less than 5% of jobs posted on USA job sites are available for H1B visa sponsorship
2 )The HIDDEN Job Market - this is when jobs are filled by proactive submissions/applications to employers, and referal networking methods. Jobs are filled before employers need to advertise them.
Statistically 80% of all positions are filled without employer advertising.
These positions are filled by, or created for candidates who come to an employer's attention through recommendations, referrals from trusted associates, companies, organizations, or direct contact with the candidate (such as via H1 Base).
Successful Hidden Job Market candidates are able to connect with the employer's network.
Does this mean the employer knows them? Not necessarily. But the candidate comes "pre-recommended" by someone the employer trusts.
Networking, using your contacts (or H1 Base's) to connect with the employer's contacts, is the key to the Hidden Job Market.
Contacting employers without a referral, or a connection, no matter how slight, is known as a "cold" call. Cold calls may result in an interview--but you will have to be prepared for lots of rejections along the way. Networking, using referrals as an introduction, is less stressful and more productive and more successful.
H1 Base professional services primary focus is on the 'Hidden' Job market. We help to connect and refer you to our H1B employer network, and at the same time employers know you are recommended through a trusted source (H1 Base) - rather than you cold calling/contacting them by yourself (unsolicitated).
